Alpina watch history
How did the Alpina watch company come about? Swiss watchmaker Gottlieb Hauser liked the challenge of obtaining the parts and materials needed to make watches. Eventually, he founded the "Kooperation der Schweizer Uhrmacher" (Cooperation of Swiss Watchmakers) in 1883. The aim of the cooperation, later renamed "Alpina - Union Horlogère", was to reduce the cost of obtaining watch parts. The organized union allowed independent Swiss watchmakers to exchange watch parts, materials and ideas. By doing so, the association aimed to optimize production. Soon they began to make their own calibers and chronometers.
By 1890 the Alpina watch brand moved its headquarters to Biel, where Jacob Straub had a caliber factory, one of its most influential suppliers. In 1900, the Alpina - Union Horlogère participated in the Paris World's Fair, where the calibers and creations of the Union were shown to a worldwide audience. In 1901 Straub registered the Alpina logo, modeled on the Matterhorn. The red emblem is still proudly displayed on all Alpina watches.
Alpina Alpiner 4 sports watch for men
According to Jacob Straub, an authentic sports watch for men must be antimagnetic, antishock, water-resistant and rustproof. These principles came together in the Alpina 4, which gained recognition as the world's leading sports watch until the 'quartz crisis' rocked the Swiss watch industry in the 1970s. In 2014, Alpina reintroduced this concept with the Alpiner 4. Inspired by its predecessor, the Alpina Alpiner 4 breathes new life into a classic design with features such as GMT displays and a chronograph.
Alpina watches for divers, pilots and athletes
Alpina watches continue to appeal to adventurers like divers, pilots and athletes. The famous Seastrong Diver is made for daring activities. The Seastrong Diver Alpina watches are water resistant up to 300 meter and available with Alpina watch bands made of leather, rubber or stainless steel. Elegant styles from the collections will stand out both on and off the playing field. The Startimer Pilot Automatic features a traditional design, with a leather strap and round dial. Meanwhile, the Startimer Pilot Chronograph has three sub-dials and a robust case.
Technological innovation and detailed design come together in the Alpiner X and the Alpina's hybrid smartwatch. Analogue and digital displays coexist seamlessly on this innovative Alpina watch. Hikers and climbers will appreciate features like a UV monitor, barometer and altimeter, so they can make the most of their outdoor experiences.
